I saw a green corydora today at my LFS. Is this a rare type of corie I have never seen or heard of one. What are some other rare cories?

Is it one of these? These are a green variety of corydoras aenus, whose bronzish green colour is quite common. I haven't seen a green variety myself. They are probably human-bred.

Or is it a brochis splendens?

Or it could be some other species, but sometimes fish stores label Brochis Splendens or Corydoras Aenus as "green catfish" or something similar.

Petsmart has these labeled as "Emerald Cories". :joe: They are larger than the Bronze Aenus and not a true cory.

Whoa!!! I have 4 brochis splendens, that I now know thanks to the pic!! Mine are green irridescent colored kind of shiny but I always thought "why aren't my corys fluorescent green like the pics. I've seen!!" So are they dyed or something? That is a really bright colored fish!! And are they hard to find? The "true" green ones?

B. Splendens is not a true cory (as the name says). Theya re not dyed and I see them all the time at petsmart. they are so cute!!! look like a GIANT bronze cory. are yours very active? at the store they always looked bummed out, with a drooping dorsal fin and little action- but i figured thats just from being in the petstore and not having a happy home yet.

No I meant I wondered if the true green ones were dyed with such a bright color. Mine are very skittish, and I'm not sure why! I have 4, plus an albino cory and they all school together, but they hide alot! I even leave the light off on "their" side of the tank, water conditions are good and they have a great hiding spot  !! I've had them for quite a while, they just seem to be much more nocturnal than my julis are
P.S, they are incredibly fast!! Sometimes when they take off to hide I can't keep my eye on them!!!

they are just reflecting light in those pictures, it is a different kind of color more like the way hummingbird feathers reflect/refract light.
Petsmart has these labeled as "Emerald Cories".
