Hi all,

I was supposed to be on holiday, but, my daughter broke her arm and we had to put it back. On the up side it's given me time to have a look around all the lfs's.

I saw a Cichlid i liked this afternoon but, didn't know anything about it. They had quite a few, so i thought i'd do a little research first. The problem is i can't remember the name and i can't find a pic.

It was around and inch and a half white, with black vertical bar's & and it had a little colour through it (Purple/red(ish), and blue.

Can anyone help with some info?

Thank's in advance,
Sarah.

Convicts will be a lot cheaper usually then the frontosa and will not have the hump on their heads

do you know if it's an african or SA. Maybe lake variant.

It was in the African tank, mixed Tang's & Malawi.

I'm thinking something like this: http://www.malawimayhem.com/profile_show.php?id=582

I thought there was an C. afra that looked similar, or possibly some sort of Maylandia, but this Pseudotropheus was the first i could find that resembled the description.

Does your fish appear to be a type of mbuna (that body shape), or does it more closely resemble a hap?

Or better yet, do you think its Malawi or Tang? Malawis tend to have either of those two body types (with some exceptions) whereas Tangs look a little different.

Any chance of a picture?

They are definetly Malawi "Maybe". I remembered this morning they were Obli"something"! We'll that's what it said on the tank!!

Having remembered this i'm going to have a look and see if i can find anything resembling it

We'll done

I had just found them, and came to post, but, you bet me to it. :p:

Now i can get some info on them!!
They are gorgeous, and i have a very empty tank right now, i'm trying to work out my option's.

These are a little larger than the one's i saw and a little more colourful, but, DEFINETLY them!!

I was sitting thinking this morning and it just popped into my head all of a sudden!! The pick you posted, is it a Juv? M/F ?

Any info would be great!
I Really don't want to mess up this tank, as it was passed on to me. I've looked at Tanganyikan & Malawi but, never Victorian

Ah well, research, research, research

Here is some info on them, with more links at the bottom of the page:

http://www.african-cichlid.com/Latifaciata.htm

It turns out "H. obliquens" is the incorrent name, and thier true scientific name is Astatotilapia latifasciata.

More links:

http://www.gcca.net/fom/Astatotilapia_latifasciata.htm
http://www.africancichlids.net/Victoria/Astatotilapia/A_latifasciata/

Doing a google search on the sci name Astatotilapia latifasciata will pull up a bunch of info. From what i know, you need to be carefuls stocking around them because they can be notoriously aggressive.

Thank you for the this!!

As i said i definetly need to use more search engine's as apposed to my usual.

I'm thinking if i keep my grandad's tank as Mbuna, they should be fine!! And the tank i had just got ready (And thought of Malawi Cichlid), i can keep as a Tanginyikan tank to house Brichardi and more specifically calvus?

What do you think?
