We have a house with a indoor pool, we don't really swim that much, we really like fish, and swimming with them.

What would you do with a swimming pool. lets say 30000 Gallons of water.

I would have a few ideas. i would create a room within the pool surrounded by glass so that i can sit and watch the fish from all angels.

stocking options
1) South American - bogwood, grasses with shoal of discus 100+, angels, rams, massive shaol tetras and cories.
2) African lake setup, loads rocks - Frontosa, Convict Julie, Cuckoo Catfish and a large shoal of Cyprichromis leptosoma, plus many other things, that can't think of yet.
3) koi could have around 100 fully grown koi of all different colours, would be fantastic.

the dream of dreams :dance2: :dive:

ashdavid or allready have dream tanks by the look of your signature.

I'm moving into a new house soon and i'm thinging of upgrading, how big is your ~2000g tank? i don't think i can go that big. i could fit in up to 7ft tank i think.

Physical description: The pirarucu is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. It can grow up to 10 ft long and weighs around 400 lb. This size is small compared to the documented size about 100 years ago which was 15 ft (4.6 m). This fish has a flat bony head, followed by an elongated body which is scaly. Its tail is short and stumpy. The color of this fish is begins with a copperish green at the head then to a darker blue-green which fades at the white belly. The fins at the edge of the tail are a reddish color.

These things can jump, i would never enter the room, one mean looking fish. have to feed it whole chickhens and stuff. could be funny.

What would I do with a swimming pool tank? Oh my lordy lllord! that sounds like heaven!!!

The 1st set up would be my ideal. I love the idea of having a missive tank, but filling it with lots of peacefull smaller fish rather than a few tank busters that you have to give feeder fish to. I'd love to have a shoals of over 100+ fish with loads of room for them to roam freely in.

I'd have viewing galleries above it as well as the room inside so you can see all over. Some kind of glass bottomed walkways.

For me it would be great to have a fair few pairs of cichlids as well as their'd be plenty of room for them to create happy territories for them to rear families. I would'nt fill the whole tank in one go cichlid wise though. I'd leave space for thier young to claim their own brood holes too so you could watch the holes and cracks in the bogwood/rocks fill with cichlid couples over time.

Pirarucu are the most majestic fish imho. They swim with so much grace and beauty. They have an unbeliveable appetite although.

In some recent pond magazine there was an article on how to transform pools into ponds. They even had some indoor ones. I remember it saying you need to upgrade the filter..

I would also keep an area that you could actually get in to swim with your fish....you would be surprized at how easily they get used to you being in there with them.... :dive2:

that would be an awesome opportunity to have! i love the idea of a tank within the pool, you could actually get away with much less stress ..lol if it leaks it wont damage anything and the supports would only have to be minimal ...lol i have 8 sheets of of glass but no pool..lol maybe we can consolidate ..hehe...but your idea seems fantastic..how large would you make the actual fish area versus the area around to swim and view?..and adding smaller fish with a larger amount of species would be how i would do it just because its so much neater to watch the didfferent fish and their personalities ...keep us updated please...

As awesome as that would be I'm going to try and be realistic!!! Whenever we move next or whenever we finally build I am going to try to convince my husband to let me have a tank built into the wall!!! I think that would be so cool, the ones I've seen look so nice, maybe a few hundred gallons :bday:

Just out of curiousity, Shekoi, what would you do about lighting over an indoor pool. You said you wanted grasses. Would the ambient lighting be enough?

One word - skylight. My apartment building has a large indoor pool with huge skylights, during the summer it's bright and sunny. I imagine you could keep both aquatic and terrestrial plants with no problem (I'm drooling as I imagine this) using skylights, but I could be wrong.
I'd go Amazon myself, discus and a HUGE school of cardinals, a group of plecos... wow, would that ever be a fantastic sight.

Sorry i might have writtern the first post wrong.

i was just wondering i've been house hunting and seen some houses with pools in the agents shops, and i started to dream of what i would do with it, if i could afford to buy a house with a pool.

Should really said if you had a 30000g pool what would you stock it with??

the biggest tank, i could get would be 7ft*2*2ft i think, not really 30000g.
