Any body using something else that will look good.I am tired of the sand tearing up my AC500 even with a prefilter on the intake.I am looking to get something dark as I have bleach holey rock in the tank.

Hmmm i have sand in all my tanks (including some extremely fine stuff) and never had a problem with it getting into the filters. My XP3 intake is only 5" from the bottom with no prefilter and sucks minimal sand up... i dont even find it in the filter. I also run tanks with sand and aquaclears and dont have a problem.

I would try switching to a coarser sand and see if that works. Or, you could just do gravel, but its more work IMO to gravel vac and stuff.

i use playsand in my 75 gal and have a the intakes to my fluvals no more than 2 inches above the sand. i have absolutely no problem with it getting sucked up and ive never seen it in the filters when i clean them... makes me wonder....

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon here, but I use playsand and have no problems with it getting in my filter either.

I wish I could offer something to help, but I haven't tried to take sand out of a tank, and I can't imagine why sand would be getting in your filters. Good luck with that, anyway....

maybe you just didnt let it initially settle enough, therefore its always kind of being messed up? idk, just a thought
