I brought home an elephant nose from the LFS and belivve it or not didn't realize until I was home with him that his tail is quite damaged... he either has a terrible case of fin rot or had a bad experience being nipped: his poor tail is frazzled to almost nothing. (I am posting a pic of this but it's not so great.) Anyway, I have placed him in my hospital tank but I have read that elephant noses are very sensitive to medication. Does anybody know how to care for him in this condition? I could always bring him back to the LFS but honestly I'd like to keep him.

I just posted to your other thread, but thought I would add... I think you should take him back, it doesn't sound like he lived that long, and at least my me those guys are pretty expensive! Maybe you can get something back. The other thing is always make sure the fish looks healthy, no signs of illness, bright colors etc. before you buy them! I know you just didn't notice, but it is really worth the time to study the fish! But since you have a QT tank you're a little better off, except for the lost money! Good luck

Thanks for your reply... I might take him back but I feel like I was at fault for not seeing the tail rot in the store. (It's a great store.. in years of going there, never a problem. Their display tanks are better than mine!) The problem was he was really shy; I had been watching him for several weeks but he was always behind something; then it took a long time to find him and I just did not carefully examine him in the bag: my bad! :( Mostly, I am just hoping nothing bad happens to my other fish now!

Thanks again for your thoughts. I will do a 20% wc and cross my fingers.
