My bolivian ram's just layed eggs in the castle of all places lol on a small rock in the right side of the tank. I've never bread fish before. I realize it is difficult to keep fry alive. But it would be great if some of the fry were to survive. Should i move them to my Qt tank now? should i wait to see if the eggs get properly fertilised? right now theres not much worry about the rams aggression as they are quite fortified (parden the pun) in the castle and no fish are actually coming close to them. I'm going to have to wait till morning to actually move them as im headed for bed. The rams have a 3 day gestation period before they hatch if they even. I'd just like some pointers please. I just did a water change and the spawned an hour or so after. I'll probably do another one tomorrow. amonia does not even register but nitrites are present but below 0.3
pH is 7.2. actually im going to change out some more water now

If you want to raise the babies, your best bet would be to remove them from the tank before they get eaten by the parents or one of the other fish. You could try and put alot of java moss in the tank for the fry to hide in..you may get a few to survive that way if you want to try keeping them with the parents.

si how do you know if they are fertalised or getting fungus? i think soem are allready. I had to go to work and didnt have anti fungus b4 :duh: Some are brownish and some are white....I'm guessing white ones are dead are they all going to be lost now once fungus starts?

The white eggs are the ones that are no good. You pick them off and syphon them out....getting them away from the ones that are good. I didn't use any meds to get rid of the fungus, I just picked the bads ones off as soon as I noticed they were white. I did pick off a few of the good ones in process, but not enough of them to worry about. I used a toothpick to do this.

If you are good about checking regularly and getting rid of the bad ones as soon as you notice them, you should be o.k. I use a piece of airline tubing to syphon out the bad ones and any fungus I notice.
