I just found a pair of blue ramms ....man they were hard to find....i had to drive for like 30 min to a store that had them.....but i already know that their senitive.....and i gotta keep the water quality good......but maybe someone with more experiance with them could tell me what they like best to eat......and i noticed that they are kinda jittery...is this from getting used to their new enviorment? any kinda signs of stress they show? of course i read up on the internet on what i could find...but sometimes thats in general...i just wanted some info with people who have had them :dive:

I just got 2 blue rams the other day. I've been wondering what to feed them. They seem to grab the tropical flakes and then spit them out. Did you get a male and female? I don't know what I have.

Well, the shop i bought them from wasent even totally sure what they were.....just that they were german rams cause the lady that sold them to the shop said they were....but i can tell one of them is chasing the outher one around the tank...and the one getting chased looks a lil differnt ....but i feed them some tetramin flakes and they were eating it so.....prolly gonna go pick up some brine shrimp........i just hope the one getting chased dosent get stressed out to much and dies...since they are senitive

If you could post some pic's it would really help!

They're are Different Ram's........german........bolivian..........!!

Even a descripion would help!

If one is chasing the other, it could be to breeding! Add a couple of rock's for safety .....ect...........but, they are generally peaceful enough to put in the community tank...i've have 2 in mine, for the past year (2 male's) with various Gourami, neon's, molly's, Barb's and Cory's!! Mine LOVE Brine shrimp!! BUT, they feed on Flake's and a little Algae too!! Also, frozen peas, blanched in hot water for a minute...than take the shells off!!

I find it really amusing watching them all run around with half a pea sticking out thery'e mouth!!!!

Try the sticky that was added to the site, if thet don't like peas theyre's a world of veg out they're!!!

Well i know their blue ramms....i just said that about the shop cause they didnt seem to know what they had.......i was more asking about perhaps behaviors to look out for seeing how their so sentive.....cost me like 12 bucks for them and like 45 mins of driving to get them.....did get to check out a new petstore....they have this huge pond thats saltwater....had a huge lionfish in it....pretty cool.......but i dont care about price i want them to live...the ph is a lil high...but im gonna try to bring it down to like 6.8 kinda slow so the water change dont stress them.......

btw what is blanching?

I feed my rams mini granules for dwarf cichlids...and an occasional black worm, also regular tropical flakes on occasion.

How big is the tank that you have them in, and what other tankmates do you have in with them ? Is there alot of cover for them to hide in ?

They are new to the tank so are establishing which one will be the boss fish. IF there is plenty of places to hide and room to get away from each other then the one being chased should do ok until they settle in and each find a place of their own in the tank.

I wouldn't do anything with the PH...mine are doing just fine in a ph of 7.8-8.0 and water hardness of about 80ppm..don't know what my gh and kh readings are though. (they have spawned 3 times so far in these readings!) It's mostly fluctuating parameters that will stress them out..they should adjust to the ph you have instead of messing around with it. A once a week water change should be enough if your tank is cycled and not overstocked.

A stressed ram will darken in color and have very rapid breathing and clamped fins. If your tank is big enough and has plenty of hiding spots...those two should be fine until they work out the territory issues.

Good luck with them Psycha ! Hope you have as good luck with yours as I have had with mine ! They are a beautiful fish !

the tank size is 25 i think.....and their is no outher fish in their cept the ramms for now....i wanted them to get settled in before i put anything else in their......but i was thinkin about some albino coreys and somesort of schooling peacefull fish....any suggestions that would stay on the smaller side...maybe i could put in like 2 trio's ......and i think they have enough hiding spots theirs to smaller clay pots for caves and like 3 bunches of java fern and two potted plants lucens and lutea and a larger cave i built out of rocks....and a emp 280 for filter......and i also plan to get a brighter light and put lots more plants in it

Sounds good....you may want to reconsider the corys....or any other fish that shares the same part of the tank as the rams...especially if they are a breeding pair.

I have read, and some folks here have confirmed...that rams and cories generally don't get along very well because the corys are such busy little guys down near the bottom where the ram tend to hang out.....the rams can get annoyed by the them.

ahh well that sucks....corey's are cool fish......but i gotta get somthing that will fill in the middle to top area of the tank.....anyone got any idea's of some fish that will be good tankmates?
and i gotta get some plants that will fill in more of the top and middle of the tank java prolly is good for the bottom...but id like the tank to be dencely planted
