How much salt per gallon should I use for treating fungas? Do I need to raise the temperature for faster results and how long should I treat with salt.
Only one of my fish have a small cotton ball on its tail fin. My tank is at 78 degrees. I just noticed it yesterday so I added 1 teaspoon/per 5 gallons today. When I treated my goldfish tank for the same. I used 1 teaspoon/per gallon for 2 weeks, but the temp. was only 72. All help greatly appreciated.

I would raise the temp to 84-86F for the duration of the treatment. either use 1 tbsp per 5 gallons or 1-2 tsp per gallon. Add the salt in slowly through water changes, say 1 tsp per couple of gallons to start.

Also recommend trying Pimafix, I've had great results w/Melafix so I imagine Pimafix is just as good. Along with salt it should whip that fungi's butt!

I would try the salt and heat first before heading to any meds. They are much easier ont he fish. If things don't clear up then a solution like pimafix or else maracyn might eb a better option.
