Hey Peoples!!
When cleaning out a sponge filter for an AC or whatever type of filter....do you actually squeeze and wring the sponge out or do you just splash and move it around in the old tank water?

Thanks
Tim

Yup, just take the old removed tank water and swish the sponge in it then give a couple of good squeezes. As Blinky says don't attack it too much or you will probably rip it apart, especially when it is older.

Depends--if the tank has only a sponges for biological filtration, I swish them around and remove all obvious solids. If there is other biological media in the setup and the sponges are just for mechanical filtration, I really rinse the heck out of them and wring them to get back to 'clean' color.

When I only swished mine at first I was amazed at how much junk came out when I actually gave it a few good squeezes!!
