i got a new peice of live rock today it was a nice big peice to go in my 700 liter tank or about 270 gal when i got it in my tank i found a lot of clams opening up like on this peice of rock it has about 20 clams 4 peices of coral 5 difernt types of kelp/seaweed/grass and weights about 15 keilos not a bad buy for $25 dollors ..

My question is this rock seems to have everything i want on it how long would it take to spawn new rock and how do you place it..

do you place it anywere in the tank or do you have to have it under or next to the live rock ...

this also opens up another question what kind of rock do you use for this or can you use dead coral

i can get large peices of dead stag coral and brain coral witch looks good ..
is that good to use to grow as live rock

I just had some normal base rock and it got seeded in a few months. It now looks just like the live rock and has only been in there for about 3 months. It has even got coraline algea growing on it. For all it matters, you could place the dead rock on the other side of the tank, and it would still get seeded, but which ever way you do it, it will be ok.
