Mushrooms

Why would you want to get rid of your mushrooms? Are they growing out of control and taking over your tank? If they are why don't you just sell them and make some extra loot? :) And hey, if you want you can send some my way :D

I started with 5 and now I am probably in the vicinity of 300 after a couple years. They brush up against my other corals and they go to war. Specifically my favites and my green leather but honestly they can touch about everything. The problem is after so many years they are literally all over the rocks and not limited to a particular few.

When they spread they shed their head and grow a new one then the head attaches somewhere else. They also spread by splitting in place.

I may end up bringing some back in for trade a little at a time so I don't lose my pod colonies and mysis all at once.

I finally had to ban mushrooms from the main tank for the same reason. They kept spreading, getting big and harrassing my other corals. They are all in the mantis tank now.

One thing I did for gsp when they were growing out of control was to use kalk paste to "prune" them. Just use a little syringe to put a thick paste on the polyps where I wanted to kill them. I had to be a little careful not to hit surrounding corals, but it worked great. You might try decapitating the mushrooms, then kalking them.
