MY stupid coming of age young stubborn oscar just lobbed off the top of a new fake plant it looks kinda like a bottle brush I think hes determined to eat it doesnt want his tank mates getting it...its been in there a while...should i try to pull it out ive seen him eat rocks then spit them out but im thinking this thing is going against the grain of his mouth..... :help:
:clap: i got it away from him and took the rest of the tops off the plant...hes sooo stubborn
Glad you managed to get it away from him :) Maybe he thinks that by doing that, you'll take pity on him, something along the line of "awww poor guy, he's so hungry he's eating fake plants, he must not be getting enough" and give him more food :)

Yeah I would not be surprised. He was the runt now hes getting his growth spurt and attempts to eat every piece of food in tank trying to keep the others away from food youd think he was starving i know better but oscars are crafty...

My last angel used to wait until I was watching the tank, then start ripping away at the (live) plants. He never ate any, just pulled at the leaves. The first time I saw him do it, I thought 'holy cow, he must be hungry, if he's resorting to plants, he's never done that before', and fed him. Presto! The angel had a trained human ;)
Cichlids are smart fish, they sometimes do things to get your attention and/or food. Oscars are also well known for rearranging their environmnet and destroying or removing things in the tank that they don't like.
