Well, like I had mentioned earlier on a previous thread my guppy was pregnant.

I just came home and found 4 little fry swimming around. My question is this, should I take the mom out of the breeding tank? I heard that guppies have an average of 20 fry at the least and Im not sure if she is done. How long does the labor part last for? Could she be taking a break? Any comments or help welcome, thanks.

she could be in between, but likely she or another, had a feast on the youngsters.
You should remove her. Fry are in the 30 to 60 babies at a time.

I guess... The mother was after the little fry so I took her out and back to the big tank. Theres probably more fry, I just cant see them considering that I placed a lot of plant so that the fry had somewhere to hide. A moment ago I counted 11 and right, now I counted 6 fry so you never know how many there could be.

Java moss is a cheap and effective way to protect fries. I still have a female platy in the breeding tank after three weeks.

She gave birth to 7 fries more than three weeks ago. She still looked quite pregnant so I kept her in the breeding tank. I have one third of the 10G tank covered with three inches of java moss. The fries spent most of their time inside the java moss colony. I didn't lose any of the original 7.

3 days ago a second batch came with 10+ fries. Every day I check I can see the babies in the java moss. The old fries are quite big now and they can post a threat to the babies, but I am sure some will make it because of the protection from the java moss.
