It has been 3 years since my last post <username: garowana> I have since taken down my tank, moved and finishing my 2yr at NYCOM. I am guessing I have about 3 years until I will have to move for my internship and would like to get back into the habit.

I have a 125gal tank that I would like to set up right, with plants, CO2, and community fish. I am planning on building a hood because my old one is not enough for plants.

Since I have been out a while, does anyone know where to buy lighting, and CO2 equip? I have no idea how far and big I should go on either of these. I am debating between halides and compacts. Money is not really a concern right now, because I want to do this right and I am planning to keep this tank 'til it cracks.

I need recommendations on lighting, soil/substrate and CO2, websites to buy, and any books or articles.

DO'ng it well

I used ahsupply.com for my pc lighting and was very happy. If you are building your own canopy their retro kits might be right up your ally. IMO pressurized CO2 is the only way to go. I got a JBJ Co2 Regulator Set (Regulator, Needle Valve, Solenoid, and bubble counter with checkvalve) from aquariumplants.com for about $80. You can get a CO2 tank from a gas supply store or a local welder. If you have a canister I would recomend an inline diffuser for your CO2. For substrate I use Flourite and like it a lot. It is very dusty though and will require a lot of rinsing before use. Also, it is a pretty dark substrate and some people don't care for it. I'm very jealous of your tank as I'm in the market for a 125 right now. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Here is the most recent pic of my tank. http://photobucket.com/albums/y123/peleg38/?action=view&current=G40Tank051105.jpg

I like plantgeeks for good advice on all that stuff. You can also try fish-forums for other opinions, and the site owner also has a business selling plants, CO2 equipment, and lighting, but isn't pushy.
