I just went and looked in my tank, and I caught my apple snail eating my kissing gourami. Like, I saw it with my own 2 eyes. By the time I caught it, he already had it in his shell, but I cannot beleive what I just saw. This fish was fine before. This is also the snail that ate my goldfish. I have no idea what to do. :help:

my first thought was to get rid of the snail... but i gotta ask you. how in the world could an apple snail catch a fish??? even a slow moving fish like angels are fast enough to get away from a snail.

I have No idea.. I am at a loss. I didn't see him catch it, but, with the goldfish he ate, I woke up, and there was no fish, just the snail where the fish used to be. I thought "no way" and checked everywhere, but couldn't find anything. now THIS!?! This fish that was consumed last was in good health. I was looking at them earlier today, and they seemed in no way lethargic or anything. Maybe I should sell it to a freakshow...

It's highly unlikely that the snail was responsible for the fish deaths. It is probable that the fish were already dead prior to the snail consuming them. There are carnivorous snails that only eat flesh but they will wait until a victim is already deseased before dining.

I know that, but this fish was fine... and very alive just hours before hand. and the snail did not even move. he was just opened up. I don't know what to think anymore...

params are good, its a 30 gallon. I bought the kissing gourmis, probably about a month ago because the petstore insisted that they do not get very big at all. Why oh why did I have a mental lapse. I was going to give them to my mom (she has a huge tank at work) after I had them for about a month just to make sure they are okay. I feed the snail an assortment of veggies everynight when I see he is out of his shell, so its not like he is starving. I should have taken a picture. It was quite a sight...

I had a pair of green kissers years ago. I like the green ones best...very pleasing to look at. I bought them small (2-3") and they grew to 6-7" in less than 6 months. They were eating machines and it was rather cool watching them 'vacuum' the food from the surface...so to speak. Very active too...always swimming around looking for food, rasping at the rocks, and locking jaws(kissing). They're awesome fish if you have the room for them.
