Hello everyone, well, here's the short version of my story...started out w/ a 15 gallon, a couple tiger barbs and zebra danios....then a tropheus, and then 3 blue rams, overcrowded, so i bought a 10 gallon, still not good enough, gave away the tropheus, bought a 20 gallon, now presently, in the 15 gallon, i have 2 tiger barbs, 2 zebra danios, and 1 blue ram. I have a 10 gallon w/ 1 blue ram. I have a 20 gallon (my main tank) with 2 clown loaches, 4 kuhli loaches, 4 panda cories, 1 albino bristlenose pleco, and 1 blue ram. But i'm not happy!! I'm still looking for a fish that i'll love, a fish w/ interesting behavior, a fish that looks amazing, a fish that doesn't grow too huge. Any ideas??? I'm looking into ordering a shell dweller, called the pearly ocellatus, because it is supposed to look nice and have interesting behavior, but none of the LFS around me have any, and i'm scared to order through mail. So if anyone has any good ideas, i'd really appreciate it, i'm starting to lose my inspiration for fishies!!! Thanks in advance, Jason

I am sort of like you I get bored after awhile with the fish I have and always want something more interesting so I took care of my problem by joining my local Aquarium Society. If you don’t want something you can sell it at the monthly auctions they have and meet people who love the hobby and get allot of fish that you don’t normally see at your LFS at auctions or directly from the people in the society, if want something special someone has it or breeds it or knows someone that can get it for you. Hope this helps.

You're on the right track with the cichlids, although the shelldweller (get at least two) you're ordering will need the ten all to itself. It needs very hard alkaline water to thrive. I use the commercial "cichlid mix" sand. It will automatically bring your ph up to a shellie friendly 8.0+.
Apistogramma cichlids are my personal favorite dwarf cichlid for the exact reason you described. Great behavior, very attractive fish (males and females are strikingly different). More expensive than most, but worth every penny. Your 15g or 20g would be perfect for a pair (although they are territorial and you would need to remove some of the other bottom dwellers)
