plecos scales......

i have just a quick qeustion about common plecos scales, should they be really really smooth, or kind of stick out a little bit?? i have 2 common plecos about 3-4 inches, and both of their scales stick out a little bit. is this normal?? :huh:

They do not have scales, you are probably refering to their fine hairs.

They're covered with armour plates and have no scales like those normal fishies. Those "spikes" you're seeing is more obvious in those pseuda species.
