The easiest way to get some is from a fellow reefer. Go to a high volume board like RC and look for someone in your area. Most people are happy to give the stuff away, it grows so fast. Do you need it? No, but it will help with nutrient control, pod populations, and add a little greenery to the tank. I would think you can get away with it under that lighting, but best to wait for another opinion.

I have the stuff growing in my tank, it came growing on a piece of LR I bought. My lighting isn't all that powerful either just a 65 watt smartlite strip. But my creature population is really booming and I have all of these things I don't know what they are crawling all over it. It's starting to die in areas, maybe my lighting is the cause or possibly the snail like creatures. Plus my hermits like to get in it also.

I also have some in a 209 FOWLR, and it grows pretty quickly. Calurpa is ideal for species like Tangs, Large Angels, and occasionally Butterflies. I have a little Blue Hippo Tang that picks at it quite a bit. My tank has little creatures everywhere. There are many amphipods, copepods, flatworms, worms, feather dusters, mysis shrimp, etc. So I would definetly recommend Calurpa for a FO tank.

I have a FOWLR 29 with NO (20w Power-Glo bulb) lighting and my cualerpa gorws like MAD... I got 2 little sprigs from my LFS and just put in the sand... Couple weeks later, they were gone =( Then, a couple MORE weeks later, I found it growing on my intake tube, the sand, the rocks, all over the place! It truely is a seeweed!
