I think im getting a uv light tomorow and a pump.....ive never set one of these up....what all do i need and has anyone else had any experiance with setting these up....im pretty sure it has a hanger to hang on back of tank

and its the twister one.....from hagen or coralife i forget....i hear its good

to kill off the algae in the water.......it seems like this stuff wont go away for nothing and i've spent over a month maybe even 2 tring outher methods of curing it......and ive read and read that a uv will kill it off

A UV will kill it, but you'll still need to A) remove the dead algae from the tank, or the dead algae will decay and cause a bloom of another nature and B) correct the problem that is leading to the bloom. Killing the algae without addressing the cause won't resolve the problem--it will be a temporary solution.

The UV should come with instructions, make sure to pay attention to the water flow rate, as they are only effective with the proper flow rate for the unit. If it's used, I'd pass--you'll probably end up needing to get a new bulb, and the unit may need serious cleaning.

its new and the filter should pick up the dead algae....at least thats what i was told.....and the pump is like 200 or so gallons per hr........but if you would like to come tell me the problem then im all for it.....but ive been addressing it from every angle i can....and no one else can seem to tell me where its coming from......i get the its getting to much light crap and i should black it out this or that or use this chemical and those dont work either....

The filter will pick up quite a bit of the dead alge--accompanied by a frequent rinsing of the filter media, and maybe even adding some fine filter floss and replacing it often will help. It's just important to know that the UV isn't a miracle cure for the long term. There are lots of reasons why algae gets out of control, and many fixes that work for different situations. A UV can be part of the solution.

well.....from what i've been reading it should be a nice addition and it says it kils the undisred things like ich in its free floating stage and helps to keep the water clear.......but im not thinkin that i can just put that on it and not do any outher maitence...i know it's not a cure all but it sure sounds like its gonna be a major help

i also use 2 emp 400s so...i use the regular filter cartages and some sponge filter like pad....i cut it and put it in the secondary filter bag

Once you have the product, post back with specific questions if you need installation help. Otherwise, I would plan on adding real filter floss--it captures much smaller particles than most pads and sponges, and swapping them out every other day for the first week, then see how it goes once the green goes away.

As for treating ich--UV isn't very efficient, because most of the ich spores and the tomites will never make it to the UV, they'll stay in the main tank. It can help treat an outbreak, but it won't prevent one, and it won't get rid of one as the only treatment. It will also kill many other water column fauna that are beneficial, so I wouldn't plan on having it run all the time.

well i got the uv.......its the twister model and a rio 600 pump....i think its like rated at 250 gph....so hopefully this will work out but its a brand new filter and pump

where do i get this real filter floss?

Man im pissed....i get my uv all setup.....flowing and everything...and i had a funny feeling but i carefully checked the light..as not to burn out my eyes...and my feeling was right..the **** bulb isnt working.....so im like great....now im gonna have to either spend 22 bucks ordering one online or try to find one locally which i dunno..the uv light isnt very widly used around here....and i dont know if its a specific bulb that has to be made buy the company or if walmart sells all i know its a 9 watt uv blub
