So, I saved 12 fry once my pineapple swordtail gave birth (assuming a first birth) and put them into the breeder tank. Then I found that 4 (at least) were still in the tank with mom, another female swordtail and a male betta and had lived that way for over a week...and hadn't been eaten. The swordtail fry in the tank appeared 2x bigger than the ones that I had netted and put in the fry tank!

Is it possible that the fry in the tank were more adapt to grow when they were in competition for food? Also, I feel that my fish (so far) are not fry-eaters at this point...is it safe to put 2 week old fry (previously in the fry tank) back in with the big fish???? I don't want to stunt their growth and the ones in the big tank seem to be growing daily! The older fish don't bother the babies what-so-ever...so I feel blessed that they have no interest so far...

What is the opinion about fry growing up naturally in the tank that they were born?? So, far no casulaties...I will have about 14 baby swordtails if they all live...and no reason to buy new fish. LOL
