I have recently stumbled along a indian dwarf puffer online and was curious if i could stick it in my 5 gallon. They say they grow to a max of 1 inch. So would that work in my 5. There would be no other fish in the tank with him. Thanks and all help is apreciated.

Most people recommend 3 gallons per dwarf puffer, but I am not sure about the minimum size tank to keep one of them... Hopefully someone more experienced can answer this.
A good webpage to begin with is: http://www.dwarfpuffers.com
There is also a forum linked that seems very helpful.
I hope that helps you a bit!

I think that one would be ok in your 5 gal. However they are messy eaters, as in half the food I turkey baste to mine actually make it to their mouths, and the other half settles to the bottom. The moral of the story is, make sure you keep up with your water changes, because no one wants a smelly tank.

Also if it's possible for you I'd recommend going for a bigger tank size so you could stick at least a couple in. It's fun to watch them chase each other, or when they get scared by something they all huddle up in a group. And swim around the tank as if they're trying to re-assert that they own it. Be careful what you put in with them though, they can be mean. So far my amano shrimp have mostly been left alone. I had an oto cat, but it died, although I don't think that was from the puffers. The link in the above post really is great, especially the forum. One more note on dwarf puffers, they do not eat flakes. Or sinking tablets. Mine only eat frozen bloodworms. I haven't as of yet tried live food though.

A pair of DPs won't be too bad in a five gallon, but make sure you change the water frequently. I would go for a ten gallon if I were you. It is much better for the fish.

aggression will definitely rise in a smaller tank...

bummer i just stocked up my 10 with som gouramis...... well it sounds like i could get 2 with an otto for a tank mate. or ill get a divider and 2 bettas. not sure. thanks for the help guys.

two bettas would be a small snack for a puffer, love to watch that fight.

and in this corner the wonderful and fan fav of all little kids, the Betta

and in this corner the terror of the tank, the monster him self, the Puffer.

I know, i know, you are going to use a devider, BUT i thgout that most puffers are brackish.???

There are quite a few species of fresh water puffs out there... I once saw a listing and could not believe it, since I also thought they are brackish fish... The indian dwarf puffer is strictly fresh water. It has very low tolerance to salt.
