Are there any species of fish that live well alone? I have neons and I'm getting a couple dwarf gouramis and I wondered if there was another type of fish I could just get one of who would be happy alone. It's a 20 gallon standard.

I think a dwarf gourami would be better as a lone fish. I've read many posts on here about them being aggressive to each other. Apparently some people can keep them together in peace so I guess it's a hit or a miss.
I've got a powder blue in my 75g and it will chase my black skirts when it feels like it. The black skirts are quick enough not to be in any danger, plus my tank is well planted. But there's no way I'd add another gourami. It seems to have got more aggressive with age.
I saw someone mentioned getting a rainbow shark as a possibility, well just to let you know it's not really. Although they are quite happy on their own a 20g is no where near big enough and really they'd prefer a 50g as they can grow to about 9", Plus they tend to be semi aggressive and chase other fish (depends on the fish), but on the whole I'd imagine that it'de be constantly chasing your neons etc.
