I've read the article on moving with fish but I still have some questions.

1) It is winter at the moment in South Africa and it's pretty cold. I'm moving 1500 km, and I'm wondering if my fish will not get cold? Is there a way to keep the water temp at an acceptable level?

2) I have an Upside down cat fish and I've heard that they can pop the bag that they're being moved in, is this true and how can I solve this problem? :hang:

Were moving next week and I hope someone can help me!!!!

1) Wrap the coolers in blankets, and keep them in a heated vehicle during transport. This will reduce the loss of heat in the bags. As long as the temp drop isn't significant, it shouldn't be a huge problem--I've moved fish during the winter, with below freezing temps, and not had a problem. You will want to put them in the tank at close to the temp they are at, and then slowly increase to normal. Most fish are very tolerant of cooler water, because a) it slows their processes, so you get less waste build up, and b) cooler water will hold more O2. Dropping in temp is preferable to rising, IMO.

2) All spiny fish can potentially poke through a bag (many cats and plecos included). You'll want to take care to double bag, or use a container they can't poke through, like a plastic tub. If you have a large enough container, add some floating plants that will offer cover to reduce thrashing but won't roll around and pin the fish, or keep the bag covered as much as possible.
