I have 8 Corydoras aeneus in assortment of sizes. I know they do best in numbers of 5 or more. In large groups you really get to enjoy them. But not the case with mine. Hardly ever seen during the day, either hiding under the slate rocks, under the driftwood, or in the plants. When its feeding time there on there patrol looking for food, along with searching a few times a day. They are more active during the night, more like what everyone expects from corys. Is this normal or are they still adjusting? They have been in the tank for a few weeks now.

Sounds normal to me. During the earlier parts of the day mine seem to just lay around in a group. When I show up most of them dart for cover (one of the smaller ones is still a bit more active). After feeding time in the evening my guys perk up quite a bit and are up to their usual shtick of foraging and inspecting everything in the aquarium.

Sounds normal. give them a little time. and perhaps a few treats to coax them out a little (bloodworm, grilled chicken etc). if they associate your comming up to the tank with food it'll help. I find mine go crazy for special foods once in a while.

I have 8 Corydoras Aeneus as well, but they are more active than what you described, Hawkeye. Actually, I have four types of corydoras in my tank (aeneus, trilineatus, paleatus, bronchis splendens) and only my trilineatus show similar behaviour as what you described. I only have two of those and I know that they aren't happy, so I am working on getting a few more.

Corydoras do usually get more active during the night, but it really is a myth that they are usually unseen during the daytime. I think that, in your case, you might want to check to see if they truly feel happy in their surroundings. How are the water conditions? What kind of tankmates do they have? Do a lot of people walk past your tank a lot? Things like that.

To me it sounds as if they are hiding out of fear/stress/general unhappiness.

In my little community tank i have 4 Cory's, 3 of which are different type's, but they all exhibit the same behaviour, the run around the bottom of the tank or sleep during the day and in the evenong come out to run around the tank.

The swim around and about one another and look as though they are having a great time, and i really think they are. I used to have the tank in my bedroon but, since i moved it in to my livingroom to make way for another bigger one in the bedroom, they are even more active. I think they have just as much fun during the day as they do at night. Run around for 20 minute's then sleep, then wake up run around ect, ect......

I really don't think you have anything at all to worry about, AT ALL!!! Apart from your enjoyment does it really matter the time of day they are coming out!!

As long as they are coming out...happy & healthy!!!

;)

I think it has to do a lot more with the personalities of the cories rather than the species!

I had bandits x2 and peppers x5, and all were really active!
It didn't matter if it was day or night or if the lights were on.
I'm down to 2 peppers and 1 bandit but added 6 pandas.
Now they all kinda hide when the lights are on!
I don't get it. :(

The new pandas are all shy, so they tend to hide whenever there is any movement anyways.
I think the original batch of peppers were pretty brave, cause nothing really frightened them.
Now they are down to 2, they are not as active like the old group used to be.
My lone bandit is just lonely now. :(
