My husband and his buddies do civil war re-enacting. Today they are out looking up old forgotten cemetaries to decorate the graves of the soldiers from the civil war era. They tramped through cornfields to one old cemetary last year they figured was long forgotten and were delighted to find someone had been there before them. So many of these older ones are neglected. They even found the grave of a soldier that had fought in the war of 1812.

I told him to take my camera but he didn't want to. They've been doing this for years, no reports of anything.
Maybe they are just not receptive.

I love to go to my family cemetary in southern IL. It always had felt good to be there. Many generations of my father's family way back to the ones that came over from Scotland. My grandmother would lead me around as a child and explain who everyone was. I have taken my kids, and I feel that she is there and is pleased I've brought them and continued the tradition. I can't remember all the names off the top of my head now, but when I'm there I can remember who they are and the relationship. Has to be her helping.

Went camping, Friday was great, Saturday was great, Sunday was cooler and overcast with occassional sprinkles, turned to a hard rain around 5. By Monday (now snowing/raining/sleeting), the roads were boggy grease pits. Ended up leaving our camper, took 5+ hours to get 3 trucks and a trailer with 4 wheelers on it down ~7 miles of road, back to the asphalt. Waiting for it to dry out enough that we can collect the camper, hopefully sometime this week.

I am glad to see that not everybody forgot what Memorial Day is supposed to be really about. It was never intended to be just a day off of work. It was brought about to be a day of rememberance of people who lost their lives for this great country of ours.

Sorry if I am sounding pissed or mad, but it has been a long 2 weeks with all things considering of the situation I am in.

Thanks DeVitaf and Nursie for remembering.

Memorial day is special to me Tyler my grandfather surivived WW2, and my dad was in Korea. We did not go to the WW2 memorial in D.C. because we knew that there would be hordes of people and such, so we made our visit yesterday when the crowds were gone and we could truely appreciate the beauty of the memorial, I know that if my grandfather had still been alive he would have really liked how it was designed, very touching.

In Louisianna, they have a beautiful memorial wall of those that fell during the several wars. They even listed victims of 9/11. All of them were from LA, but it was breath taking the same. I was amazed when I saw wars that I'd never heard of. I had expected the Vietnam section to be the longest, but was shocked when I found WW2 section took most of the space.

I didn't forget, T. I just had a pretty stressful weekend. I did explain the importance of the day to my kids.

Kicking and relaxing with my military man is my way of remembering. Visits to the graves of my grandfathers, who both were in WW2, takes place on more private moments.

I apologize for sounding the way that I did. I didn't mean for the way it came out. I just have been having a really bad go about things lately.

This holiday has meant more to me since 2003 since I lost a friend back then and lost 2 more people a couple of weeks ago which also left me in the hospital since then. I had hurt my right arm really bad, which has been operated on 3 times already. So I'm just asking that ya'll keep me in ya'lls prayers.

Besides it is a not a good sight seeing me type with left hand and I am right handed. :) It took me a quite a few minutes to type this as neat as I did. I couldn't have Lila correcting my grammar and typing. hehehehehe...

Take care all,

T...those of us who keep up on stuff around here know where you are.

I think that having just lost a couple of friends and coming near to losing your own life (you didn't say that but I'm guessing) and logging in to see this thread I would feel less than valued and wonder if people will remember those that have gone and the sacrifice that they have made.

Rest assured that we do appreciate you, and that you and yours are in our thoughts and prayers even if we don't say it.

Being a military spouse, and the grand daughter of WW2 vets, part of every day is Memorial Day for me. I appreciate everyone that has served, because they are the reason that I can live the life I do. To narrow it to one day wouldn't work for me--the appreciation is year round. I am doubly aware of the risks faced by those who are deployed and deployable to the Middle East--my husband is not deployable, so I pray every day for those who are, and for their families.

"The floral flag is 740 feet wide and 390 feet high and maintains the proper flag dimensions as described in executive order #10834. This flag is 6.65 acres and is the first floral flag to be planted with 5 pointed stars, each star is 24 feet in diameter; each stripe is 30 feet wide. This flag is estimated to contain more than 400,000 Larkspur plants with 4-5 flower stems each for a total of more than 2 million flowers.'

Thanks everybody for your thoughts.

So here is the update on me. The last week has been real good for me. I am no longer in the hospital amd my arm is starting to get better. :dance2: It might be coming along slowly, but it is on the right track and I am not going to rush it.

In a brief description, I sustained a wound above and on my right elbow. It left me unable to move or feel from just below my shoulder. I am able to open and close my hand except for the last 2 fingers, but I have feeling in them. So the docs believe that the movement will come in time. They told me that I should get full use of my arm back after a few months of physical therapy. When all is said and done I will only have a nice size scar. I am not going to complain about that one bit.

Take care,

:) Yep. That Thursday we went down, hitched up, and made it back without any problems. The road was almost completely dry by then.
