I got these off ebay...how do I plant them? I don't think these are roots...the top should be the plant, right? I just put them in the tank...the Q tank that is, just kinda floating loose.

i got a few myself. was told to plant them like the onion plants, part of the banana, not the whole thing. but my problem is that my fish keeps picking and they just float around the tank now since i got tired of buring them every couple of hours. not grown, however i did get some leaves with mine when if first got them, now they look like yours  sorry.

huh thats weird cuz i just got one a couple of days ago and it was full of roots it had big ones that went straight to the leafs and little ones comming out of the bottom of the bannanas.
mabey you should try planting them down all the way then in a few days add some fert then check it in a week or two to see if any roots started to develop

As Wildiana said, plant only part of the bananas into the substrate. It's what I did and also confirmed at the plantguide at plantgeek.net (they specify 1/3 of the bananas submerged):

My banana plant has totally gone wild... I never expected this as 4-5 lillies shot up to the surface of the tank!
Here's a before and after... only a few weeks separate these pics:

Wow! Those are wonderful!
What kind of lighting do you have and do you CO2 inject? I have low lights and use Excel. I am hoping for growth, but probably not as spectacular.

Thanx.
I'm using a 65W Coralife on a 29gal tank with fluorite substrate, no CO2 yet (I think my KH and PH is too low). My trio of Seachem ferts:

plain Flourish
Excel
Iron

The banana plant has been a pleasant surprise and I never expected it to shoot up as many lillies. Good luck!

Wow! I am doing pretty much the same...with K+, phos and nitrate dosing in addition. I hope I get a good looking plant like that!!

i have them with my bettas. i didnt plant them, they just float, but since they are so low any way, they grow their roots down into the rocks. mu lfs told me that once they out grow it , i can put them in the 55 gal.

i just had a quick little qeustion and im only asking this cuz im crazy like a pirate but could you actully eat the little bannanas, ya know like you would eat a real bannana?
im just wonderin.

I'm wondering why you'd want to?
For the $ I spent on the plants I could buy several bunches of real bananas.
I don't think I'd ever have the munchies bad enough to go digging in my tank..too much work and $ into it.
