would this be too much in a 29gal tank?
My wish list:
2 dwarf fire gouramis
5 zebra danios
5 cherry barbs
3 glass catfish (heard they can be tricky to keep though)
6 cories
1 dwarf pleco
considering no gouramis and increasing the school ( maybe increase the cherry barbs to 8)
thanx for the help!!!

That looks fine, though you would need an efficient filteration system and a you will need to probably change the water at least once a week with that load. If you keep up with the maintenance, it should be a problem. I wouldn't recommend anything that grows bigger than 6 inches in a tank that size htough. How big do the dwarf plecos grow?

Bristlenose plecos only grown to 3 to 5" I thought glass catfish grow rather large, though (4 to 6")?? They also do best with live food vs. flake food and need to be in groups of at least 3.

I agree with the comment on the glass catfish...they are supposed to get 6", and they school...I would think need more length than a 29 can provide.
Maybe someone can suggest another transparent fish that is smaller. I'll check out my reference book and bbl.

thanks
my lfs said the catfish get only 3", but iver checked online and am finding an average of 3-5", so i will probably save those for my 55gal, in the future!!!
i was planning on two filters for the tank no matter how many fish i end up with.
i already have an emperor 200 biowheel!
i wasnt sure what type of pleco, i love the zebra but they are expensive and hard to come by.
the lfs i love has a clown pleco, i heard they stay small but im not sure if its in the 4" or 6" range.

Other than the glass catfish, that sounds decent. And if you removed the catfish from your tank expanding the size of one of those schools sounds lke a great idea. If i were you i would go for 10 cherry barbs, i love cherry barbs. They're small too, beautiful.
Also, clown plecos grow around 4 to 5 inches in length, so it's all opinion whether thats exceptable or not

ok so hows this
1-2 dwarf gouramis
5 zebra danios
8 cherry barbs
4-6 cories
and
1 clown pleco
i was probably gonna get panda cories and they stay smaller than the other cories, ive read.
im keeping an eye out in the paper im hoping to get a used 55gal, theres always one or two in the 200 range!1 if i do that im still going to stay with the small group and add later!!!!!
thanx as always for the terrific advice!!!!!

The clown plec should be fine but don't expect to see much of it. Get it a nice piece of driftwood for it to hide in and munch on.

hey feralcelt2 you can get a new 55g for about 180 bucks at walmart thats where i got mine from and i have had no problems with it all i would say is upgrade the filtration system on it because i had to buy another power filter for the other side to help keep it clean

thanks for the tip, petsmart also has a 55 kit for 180, i know the filter is good, but ive read several reports online that the heater the topfin kit comes with is no good, so id plan on adding two heaters, one small on each side,
i already have an emperor biowheel 200 filter which caan go on one side!!!
so its definitely an option to get a 55 , just gotta figure out if theres room!! :)

what can anyone tell me about khuli loaches?
i heard they hide until they get comfy then come out and need to be in groups?
how big of groups? would they be ok with the cories? are they ok on gravel or do i need to look for a finer grade, such as sand (this may go for the cories too)
im thinking maybe a finer gravel at least would be better for the plants too, i am only planning on having simple low light plants, aka java fern and java moss!!!
khuli loaches may look nicer in a small community tank over a pleco, i love zebra plecos, but havent been able to find one, so i am looking for plan B and my hubby loves the khuli loaches.
any info would be great!
