loss of color

i have a gold sevrum about 4-5 inches in a 75gal and a 3in rainbow shark in a 30gal. bolth of them seem to be losing there color. the sevrum was a dark yellow now its only a hint of yellow and he hides all day under things where its dark, and only comes out to eat. The rainbow shark was a rich dark black but now he's more of a dark meidum gray. his behavior seems fine, but i hered the darker they are the healthier they are. im mostly worried about the sevrum i cant really think of wht it could be theres no marks or cysts or anything on him none of the other fish bother him the only thing i could really think of is that it mite be a parasite of some sort, but i dont really know much obout parasites so i could be wrong.

What are the parameters of you water? Have you changed something recently. Seems like something is going on if you have problems in both your tanks.

i checked the water last week and they were fine the only going on in the 75 is that about a week ago we added a new fish and thats it. in the 30 iv added some new plants in and thats all.

also forgot to put this in, the sevru8m has been laying on his side lately. also i just now noticed that the clown loaches in the 75 have lost some of there color there bands are not as brite/rich as they normaly are.

Im sorry but I have to ask. What are the number fine doesn't help. As a first guess without more info. Your severum may have some kind of digestive problem. Is he eating at all?

i just fed them and he seems to be eating.
if it is i digestive prob what can i do for him?

Is you PH always 6 if its steady then its no problem. Peas or food soaked in garlic will help a lot.

ya the ph is always at or very close to six. i have some garlic inriched frozen algee cubes so ill trow one of those in there.

Do you do regular water changes? I know that before I realized how important they are, I was very lazy about doing them and my rainbow shark was always a pale grayish color. Even if your test readings are good, other things can build up in the water (metals, etc.)

the sevrum is a lot more active today so that is a good sign, he hasnt got his color back yet. the loaches are back to normal, and the rainbow kinda goes back and forth from black to gray. im going to do a water change soon as the weather clears up its all rainy here right now. also there other stuff i need to do out side that is fish reated and i would rather do it all at once.


almost forgot its been about two weeks since the last water change, and i also need to clean out the tubing on the filter for the 75gal.
