I live out in the burbs on the east side of KC. Where part of KC are you from? Do you have freshwater or saltwater tank(s)?

I live in Independence. What LFS's do you frequent? I like brothers for their assortment, but high priced. I like Tropical fish cove for thier prices, also nice quantity, but a bit messy. And I like Fish world in Blue Springs, but not much variety. I have 3 tanks, all freshwater. I may try a reef tank in a year or two.

I've had too many bad experiences with the staff at Brothers, so i wont even do business with them anymore plus there prices are insane. George at Tropical Fish Cove is a very knowledgable guy when it comes to this hobby but his store is a little to cluttered/dirty for my tastes so i tend to stay away from there. I mainly do all my business with Doc & Jeff at Fish World in Blue Springs. They are both really good guys and will help you with any questions you have. The guys at Fish World are hobbyists first and businessmen second, which is rare in the hobby.

Are you new to the hobby or the area?

A little of both. I have only lived in the area for about two years, and I have only had my tanks for around three months.
I also had a bad expieriance with brothers. I didn't want to say so because I do not want to flame. They wanted to argue about the effects of phosphate on plant with me. I was looking for the Seachem products for adjusting alkalinity and hardness that does not contain sodium biphosphate. I had just read on seahems own site about this. I later went in looking for the product, and asked an employee about it. He told me not to believe everything that I hear on the internet. I didn't even tell him that my information came directly from his supplier. Anyway, it is a shame, they a nice selection there. Do you know of any other good shops?

I keep hearing more and more bad stories about Brothers that it makes me curious as to how they stay in business.

Those 3 shops are about the only LFS that i know of in the area. If i need supplies/livestock i'll go to Fish World and have them order it for me and i've never been disappointed with price or service. Is there something special you are looking for?
