for both of my Emperor 330's and my Eclipse II...I change the filters with carbon media monthly (normally the 1st of the month). I have just written it off as an on-going expense of owning a fish tank.

I change my Eclipse 1 cartriges every 1 month.
By then the fibers have separated and it has lost effectivness.
I pay around 5$ for each one and its geting irritating, so next month im going to change it for a generic sponge. :D

I clean my aquaclears every other week and havent replaced them since I got them. (6 months so far)

I have a profile 10 filter that I use cut out carbon pads for media. I find that if I leave the sponge pad in their for more than a month, it gets mushy and doesn't filter as effectively, so I change it about every 3 weeks or so, and I clean it once in between.

Maybe not! Carbon is usless after the first week or two. It isent needed unless you are removing some kind of chemical from the water. Just use sponges from now on. They need claning every 2 weeks, but dont need to be replaced for a LONG time. Mine have been ok for like 1 year so far.

I clean mine every day or two and replace them only if they have fallen apart.

Tetratec 500 and Aquaclear Quick Filter powerhead attachment.

I just started my Filstar the beginning of April. The sponges don't show any wear yet, so don't plan to replace soon. The white filter pad crapped out a couple of weeks ago, but I started using polyester fiberfill in addition to it, so just increased the amount. The first basket has sponges, and the second has some biostars..and I fill the rest of the basket with polyester fiberfill. It takes a coupld of weeks for that to clog up enough to affect the water return, and then I take everything apart, clean it and pitch the fiberfill and put in new. It's cheap, I use the craft stuff from Walmart.
