yo
i got a convict tank with some driftwood and a cave. i want to grow some plants i there that dont need co2 injection. i want some java fern and moss on the driftwood . i wonder if it would get picked at a lot. id also like a long plant for the back of the tank, maybe vallisneria or sagitaria. i really dont know how tough they are.

help?

I have an amazon sword, anacharis, a java fern and anubias nana in my tank with a convict and a firemouth. What helps is having a piece of slate in front of the plants so the aren't dug up. The plants are in the two back corners, which makes it easy to protect them. The java moss and anubias are tied to driftwood. The convict likes to hang out head first in the anacharis and sword. The firemouth finds the plants either annoying or ignores them completely. Don't know what problems there would be for java moss though.

cool.
i made up my mind. im ordering tonight. im getting some java moss, anubias and some amazon swords. ill wait for the java fern when i get a real big hunk of driftwood. thank for your suggestions

I hope you will post pics when you're finished. :D. Meanwhile, you may want to read up on the light requirements for the plants you have selected. Most are low light, but the type of sword makes a difference. Some like high light, as do most vals.

yeah, nothing beats live plants to give a tank that final touch. (Even though my tank is the equivalent of a plant hospice.)
