My 3" common plec has eaten most algae off the glass.

So is there any foods I can give it to supplement it's algae diet?

Maybe stuff from the kitchen?

Thanks

From what I've read most green vegies are a good choice. They also like shrimp pellets.

They sell algae tablets at LFS. Those are always good and easy to feed.

When I had my common pleco I fed him algae wafers, cucumber, zucchini, lettuce, and potatoes.

I have heard that zuchini is the best because it has the most nutrition in it. It helps the fish to grow quicker as well... but with a common pleco that could eventually become a problem because they do get quite large!

Try cucumber or zucchini, they're the most common vege people feed to them.

When I was in a pet store the other day they were putting slices of zuccini (sp, I'm not italian) on a weight, the bottom feeders loved it.

I also have put a slice of cucumber in my tank, it disappears almost overnight.

Do you have to prepare the zuchinni or cucumber in any way, besides peeling? I just got a clown pleco and wanted to try that.

I feed my fish cucumbers cut into quarters, unpeeled. This way, they eat all the flesh and leave the skin, and all I do is remove the skin of the cucumber the next day when they're done.

When I feed them mangos, I just cut it into large slices, but I peel the mango first.

Lettuce just gets thrown in the freezer for a few minutes and then it's ready for the tank.

Not only the plecs eat these, so does my juvenile Osphronemus laticlavius, the balas, and my clowns.

Some Plecos, particularly the Panaques, seem to prefer the skin to the pulp, especially of zucchini, but also (even though less avidly) the cucumbers (I do use burpless). Do some experimentation to find what works best or suits your fish best.

I feed my plecos algae wafers and cut-up zuchini. I nuke it in the microwave for about 30sec.-1min.

I love the pic on that link. My pleco has just learned to come to the surface an eat out of my hand. Its really neat to hold a cucumber or algee wafer and have hm eat out of your hand. His other trick is to float backwards with his mouth out of the water trying to catch the blood worms I pour in for the other fish. Its really funny looking!
