I recently set up my 90 gallon tank.........it's my first aquarium in over six yearsand my first planted tank ever. I'm going with a low light theme so it's planted with a bunch of ferns, moss, crypts, anubias, and vals. I planted it about ten days ago, and with the exception of some crypt melt, the plants seem to be doing fine.

Anyway, I had been using a hand me down Tera pf500 HOB filter..........I know they are not ideal in a planted tank, but I've been trying to offset the costs to appease my not entirely supportive wife. I planned on "getting by" with it for a couple of months so I could ease my way into buying a cannister.

That said, we had a power outtage last night while neither of us were home and somehow the filter ran dry before the power came back on. The filter started back up and ran dry for about five hours. When I got home from work, I spent the next several hours trying to get the **** thing to work again. Seems like the impeller is bent or the energizer is fried.

So, today, I ordered a Fluval 404 and it shopuld be here in a few days. My question is: will my plants be ok for a couple of days without filtration? I have not added any fish yet, although I was planning to pick up some ottos today to deal with some algae I noticed yesterday morning.........
Is there anything I should do or not do, besides holding off on the ottos in until the filter arrives? Turn out the lights? I'm just concerned because the tank isn't established yet.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the plants will be fine, as long it's only a couple of days. I'd be more worried about the livestock. I say this because I have 2 tanks that have livestock and no filtration at all, but grow plants like there's no tomorrow.

I always think I should get an airstone and a pump on hand, just in case. (But haven't yet.) If there are fish, waterchanges and airpump and airstone can carry it for a few days.
