This is exciting! I have six of these fish in a ten gallon, and last night one was looking like it was really going to burst. This morning I noticed it wasn't fat anymore, so I started looking for eggs. Then I noticed a tiny little fry stuck to the bottom! I also saw about fifteen eggs. I hadn't noticed any eggs before, but I think the fry must have come from an earlier batch. It's already a super tiny version of the adults. Now if I can just get my zebra otos to do the same.....

Unfortunately I have to go away for a few days. Terrible timing, but hopefully they will be ok. I don't have time to post info on these fish, but just punch the scientific name into google for pictures and information. They are similar to otos, but much less common.

Wow - after I posted I went to feed them some lettuce, and witnessed the actual spawning. This is incredible......I sure hate to leave right now!

Thats Pretty cool, If you want to try to trigger the otos, take some tank water from that tank to do your next WC in the oto tank with. Old trick used by fish breeders, especially with catfish. Hormones and stuff in the water can trigger spawning with others. Its worth a shot.

You know, I've read about this before and thought it sounded like a good idea. Thanks for mentioning it, it would be worth a try. I'll have to do that when I get back home.

Just did some googling. There isn't much info available on these fish. About all I know is that they're from Brazil and are pretty easy to breed. Here's a link to a good photo. Mine have more marbling then the one in the pic - nice looking fish as far as algae eaters go.
