I've been impressed by the industriousness of my 6 amano shrimp since I first got them. They are constantly on the move day and night working over the plants and gravel. I'm starting to get a little concerned however at the way they are absolutely shredding my Malaysian driftwood! The driftwood is a nice hard piece from a fish store. I'm certain it is not rotting. The shrimp simply work on it and work on it until I see tiny particles of wood floating away. My filter bed is half full of wood when I rinse it. The wood is also leaching tannins again, turning the water yellow. That part doesn't bother me. I'm just wondering if this is normal shrimp behavior. I do feed them sinking pellets a few times a week and their intestinal tracts usually look full. Are they just doing this because they are bored?
