I have had a recent phenomanon and did an experiment to see if I could effect some change and here is my speculation.

I have two black tipped or columbian sharks. As I have been reading they grow up in freshwater, and then migrate toward the ocean spending time in various degrees of brackish water. I had been using 1 tsp of salt per gallon, but stopped doing this for fear it was effecting my plants. In the last month since eliminating salt from my system, one of my bts has been spending all his time swimming in place on the down flow side of my tank. My speculation is that he or she was attempting to migrate to saltier water. This has been going on for some time. Last week I re-introduced salt and the bts has integrated itself back into the tank. I realize they as well as others in my tank will need a larger home next year, but every one seems to be doing well for now.
