I have some angels that i am planning to breed but i also have a pretty bad algae problem so would it be possible for me to add some oto's without them getting ripped to shreds by my angels?

I don't think the angels would bother the otos. Do you want otos only because of the algae, or do you want to keep them either way?

The otos may attach to the angels, but I think that if you watch them it will be ok to try.

I've been keeping both together for over a year with no problems at all. Right now there are seven otos in my 65g with a very agressive angel, and he never gives them a second look. As long as your otos are well fed and have a place to hide (under plants, in a cave, driftwood etc.) if the angels pair up and get agressive defending their eggs I imagine everyone will be just fine :D

They are perfect together. They like the same water conditions. They both come from South America.

Since I just added 3 ottos to my tank with 9 Angel yesterday, I will chime in and say....the Angels are chasing them around.
But normally only when the otto takes a swim close to them. My fingers are crossed that over time this stops, and that the ottos become big enough to no longer look like a possible meal for the Angels. I will make a post if the Angels actually kill an otto here in the next few days.

I never had any problems when Otos were in the same tank as Angels. It should be fine, especially if you have a good number of ornaments.

I had two adult angels and two ottos, among other community fish, and they seemed to get along just fine ;)

I have kept Otos and Angels together for years.
They might not seem like it, but Otos are tough little fish. I have even seen some in a tank with a mid-sized Oscar. I understand that the Oscar tried eating one of the Otos once, but spit him out again after getting stuck in the mouth, and never tried to eat one again! On the other hand, I would not suggest you try this particular combination yourself. Another Oscar may not give up as easily as this one did.

OK, update on my end, after 24 hours, the Angels seem to have given up on their new tankmates. The 3 ottos are doing fine, and seem quite oblivious to the Angels, as they are swimming around the entire tank looking for algae.
If they swim really close, an Angel might take notice, but the ottos move away quickly and the interest dissappears.
