Every brand of filter seems to have numerous fans... I have no preference. The one filter I got really attached too was discontinued several years ago.

But for heaters, I strongly recommend Ebo Jagers. I have one on my 55g and I never seen anything but a temp reading of 79.9 degrees for the past three years.

I personally prefer a wet/dry sump - get the tank drilled and you basically can keep all your equipment out of the tank for a very clean look. Plust the wet/sry sump provides excellent biological filtration

I set up a 125g cichlid tank last summer,I recommed a Filstar canister xp3 filter. Its quiet and keeps the tank very clean. It runs about 100 bucks.I had a magnum 350 pro system on the tank but it wasn't as easy to mantain and did not hold much media. I also run 2 228 powersweep powerheads.so far no trouble. As for heat I have 2 300watt visa-therms. Have fun.
