hey guys i was wonderin if you could help me on what is going on with my new red chromide. When he tries to swim it looks like he has no control of were he is going and ends up running into the gravel or a plant or another fish. Because of this he no longer tries to swim and just sits on the bottom of the tank in the gravel. the only thing i noticed odd about him is that both his eyes look bloodshot? Any help or ideas would be appriciated.

First off, what are your water parameters? Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte, SG (if it's a brackish tank, chromides are a brackish fish..). Those would help us figure out what may be going on. How hot is the tank etc.

the temp is 80 degrees, ammonia 0 and i dont have a kit for the rest, its not brackish, but i have heard many people keep these in freshwater just fine. It a 7 gallon and i just did the water change today ( 25% ).

   He didnt make it, i was watching him for a while when it looked like he had no control over the left side of his body, only the fins on the right were moving causing him to flip and spin. After he stopped that he wasnt breathing no more, ive seen miracles before so i said maybe he will pull himself out of this. But then he went into a wild twitching flying himself across the tank ( he wasnt alive while twitching ) and sunk to the bottom. I then again waited and nothing happend so i sadly took him out, said by, and flushed him away.

Those are brackish fish. they will survive sometimes in freshwater but not for a full long life. And not in a 7 gallon tank. Did you buy it from a store that kept it in brackish water? Did you acclimate it slowly to your tank?

I know this isnt the best place to by fish but its the only place that carries cichlids at very small sizes (less then 1 inch)Meijer so he wasnt in brackish, He was only going to be in that tank for a couple months until i got my 40/90 gallon cichlid tank. This was the only 1 out of the 3 i bought that had problems. It didnt happen over night either ever since i got him he was acting weird and i thought he was getting use to his suroundings until yesterday. Oh yeah and all 3 were introduced at the same time, it was about 20 minute process of slowly adding water.

It looks like it has swim bladder problems. Sorry that your fish died. Swim bladder problems are almost incurable, but some fish can still live long lives with the problem.
