So I have the go ahead to do some lighting upgrading for my tank.
125 aga 6feet long 24 inches high i think.
I have 3 250 watt 65k sakis on it right now with 2 4ft vho super actinic bulbs.
I want to do some better actinics because I have enjoyed the color shift since I even put on the vhos. Here are my ideas...

idea 1
put on 4 4ft t5 bulbs and stagger them for full coverage

put on 2 6ft vho super acintic bulbs

put on 2 250watt or 400 watt radiums for actinic

I could put the two bulbs just to the outside of the center braces so it would go 65k then radium then 65k then radium then 65k.

which is my better option.
Added heat is not to much of a worry I dont have any fans on it right now but have some installed that I can turn on.

what do you think-
btw sps dominated tank with a clam and hopefully more soon!
thanks,
tren

2 400 watt radiums

Many people are setting up just that combination. Sakis for growth, and radiums for color.

The actinic T5 bulbs will be out sometime this year.

My plants in my FW tanks, and my Xenia and polyp frags are growing perfectly well under 6500K T5 bulbs.

so you dont think the radiums will be too much light?
i hope not i kinda want to go that route

If you think it will be too intense you can stagger the lighting.

Run the 400s early in the morning, then shut them off after you leave the house and have the Sakis come on, then shut off the Sakis and turn on the Radiums right before you get home.

That way you could still have your 10 hr photoperiod and be using less electricity, and have your tank look very nice for when your home.

BTW, I doubt it will be too much light, you might need to start the radiums slowly to help your critters adapt, but it likely wont be too much of a light shift, more of just a spectrum change.

leave the house?
you mean people leave the house?=)

sounds like a good idear,
I am gone from 6am to 8pm at work in the summer so I might just have em start late and stagger so the radiums are on for like 6 hours and the sakis for 10ish. I should probably keep the two vho bulbs for morning evening or should I have the 400s turn on for morning off for most the day then on for evening?

hmm I will have to think out that lighting schedule
