Anyone ever fed fresh shrimp to African cichlids

I have a couple of Fronts and some Lake Tang. African cichlids and was wondering if anyone has ever fed Africans fresh shrimp and if they have to be processed in any certain way.I have one Front who could probably inhale a whole shrimp.

Mav,
Your Frontosas would definately benefit from feeding them shrimp! They are carnivores by nature and spend their lives searching for small fish. If they are big enough to eat whole or half shrimp, you can probably selectively feed them without any problems. Personally, I would avoid trying to give them feeders, as you run the risk of winding up with disease-laden fish that will make yours sick in turn. Frozen shrimp, krill, silversides, and the like will be great supplemental food to what they're already eating. Calvus are predatory as well and will benefit from fish flesh as well. I would avoid feeding your smaller tangs such as julis, lamps, and the like fish. They can eat it in small amounts, but it can bind in their guts and cause problems. I would not recommend feeding Tropheus fish either. They will bind up tight and die.

Thanks FishSeller.Have you ever heard of mincing shrimp up with spinach and freezing it and then giving it to them in small pieces. No I would never think of giving them feeders.

Shrimp is a great food. Anything thats carnivorous can benefit from being fed it. Its also a natural color enhancer (for reds). I feed it to many of my fish, especially the discus. As fishseller said though, only feed it to carnivorous fish, herbivores will have digestive problems if they are fed it.
