Hey I live close enough to NY, no shipping necessary!!
I wish I knew what ber that was in, I'd go there! That would be the best, relaxing over a drink watching that huge tank...who ever buys it, needs to use it in a bar or some type of shop...

Us single guys call that "a-few-years-of-saving-do-you-take-paypal?" lol. :D

I would finally have the minimum tank for keeping one RTC, (barely enough room for the cat to turn around though). I guess I could always fill the upper levels of the tank with either Arrowana, or Pacus.

I am seriously considering this, the only problem is that it is only 6ft wide. The other problem is shipping, anyone know a cheap way to ship something like this to Japan? I suppose the shipping dose not matter b/c it is soo cheap! All the tanks that size I have looked at are 10 times the price. I am going to write them an e-mail for more information.

I guess you have to truck it to the west coast, and then put it in one of these shipping containers. Going to be a long trip. But, the shipping containers are big enough. You might be able to put it in the container in NY and put it on a train to the west coast doc.

As for the negotiations, can you say jewelry:)

Container Dimensions and Capacity

Containers intended for intercontinental use have external nominal dimensions of:

Length ----- 9.8125 feet (2.991m) as 10 feet;
19.875 feet (6.058m) as 20 feet;
29.9375 feet (9.125m) as 30 feet; and
40 feet (12.192m)

Width ----- 8 feet (2.438m)

Height ----- 8.5 feet (2.591m) and
9.5 feet (2.896m)

All above dimensions have permissible tolerances.

The 20 feet (20') and 40 feet (40') containers are very popular in ocean freight. The 8.5 feet (8.5') high container---8 feet 6 inches (8' 6") high container---is often referred to as standard container.

The demand for the high cube container---hicube---is increasing. The popular high cube container has a normal height of 9.5 feet (9.5' or 9' 6").

There are half height containers (4.25' or 4' 3" high) designed for heavy loads such as steel rods and ingots, which absorb the weight limit in half the normal space.

The most widely used type of container is the general purpose (dry cargo) container (please see Container Classifications) having a nominal length and height of 20' x 8.5', 40' x 8.5', and 40' x 9.5'. Referring to the Dimension of General Purpose Containers below, the dimensions shown in the table are not fixed, that is, the external and internal dimensions may vary among containers of the same length and height.

The container capacity is the total cube a container can accommodate. The term cube often refers to the cubic measurement of cargo. The capacity (i.e., the internal volume) is determined by multiplying the internal dimensions, that is, the product of internal length, width and height. The capacity may vary among containers of the same length and height.

Ash... what do you do for a living?

I want the money for a 10,000 gallon tank :(

World's largest tank of mollies! :p

ashdavid
06-24-2005, 8:16 PM
Sorry people its a no go. They are asking a lot more than whats been advertised, also the shipping looks like it is going to be a nightmare ,plus very expensive. I am thinking that I will have to organise a crane to lift it into place which is hardly pratical here in Japan where I live, but not impossible ,but after talking to the engineer that built my first tank he convinced me that it would be easier and cheaper to have one built on site, so I think I will go with my original plan of having a 10,000g plus tank built for me, plus I will have the flexability to decide on the dimensions. Everyone will just have to wait a few years while I get everything sorted out. Sorry.

I think maybe thats what they did, I can't blame them though. I was also concerned about the width, 6' is not much in a tank that size.

dont worry according to my calculations its only 9720 gallons anyways. and thats only if measured from inside. if that was measured from the outside with the thickness of the acrylic it would be much less.

Ash,

If and when you do drop a 5k plus tank in your house, I think that would be a project worthy of a PBS documentary. Obviously shooting it in Japan over the year it would take to complete would be challenging, and I am sure other networks would consider the project.

Also, all the aquarium books available deal in the setup and maintenance of tanks less than 100 gallons. What you and some others here are doing is a different animal. Same concepts, but dramatically different planning, execution and technology. Ever considered writing an aquarium book on "Big *** Tanks". I think the 200 gallon plus crowd is a growing population and would benefit from your knowledge and experience.

You can get an above ground pool that is 10-12,000 gals for $2000 or less, often wtih free shipping if there isn't a store near you. Takes about 6 hours to put together, assuming you remembered to charge your electric drill and prep the area first.

I keep threatening the wife about it every time ours gets a little green...

Firstly Ash - WOW! nice tank man i can but dream....
I have to agree with the above statement. I bought a 30g in Jan, have just bought a 100g (pics will be posted once set up and cycled etc.) and now that is looking a bit small for sosme of the fish I would like to keep (Arowana etc.) I am currently seeing if my relationship would be over with a nice 300g i've seen!

Any advice form anyone with 100+ g would be a good sticky in my opinion as it took me a week to find a heating cable (for substrate) capable of 100g - what happens above that??????
