What does hair algae look like? I may have it starting on the upper ends of some corkscrew val in my tank. SHould I cut off the affected parts to get rid of it?

Absolutely, asap!
If it a val though, rather then cutting it, remove it from the base and remove the whole leaf.

Thanks for the great link, Bill..
I may try brushing before I cut. I trim my corkscrew val on a regular basis anyway...it gets way too long and blocks the light to the rest of the tank.

I trim at the water level so isn't as obvious. Well ok..so maybe it is. I'm running a low light operation here and figure I need to allow all the light in the tank I can. I also finally got rid of all my hornwort for the same reason, blocks too much light. ANd I keep dipping out all the duckweed that found it's way in too :duh:
