I went to my LFS, Panhandle Pet supply, to pick up a female Krib and when I got there the clerk was helping another customer. this customer was a handful. she was looking for a fish for her child. first she asked the clerk if she had any "Nemos". the clerk said "yes, we have clown fish, but they are saltwater, they wont survive in your 10 gal freshwater tank". the lady said ok and started to look at the cichlids. She points at a frontosa and asks "do you have any of those in baby or anything tinier than that?" the clerk says "ma'am, a baby one is going to grow quite quickly into that...again it wont go in a 10 gal tank....how about we look at some tetras or maybe a pair of male guppies." the lady was insistent on the cichlids...and each one she pointed at was quite pretty but definitely NOT for a 10 gal tank! and she kept asking if she could just buy a baby one. the clerk was very patient but stood her ground. i was impressed. theres no guarantee that this lady didnt go elsewhere and bought an oscar or a green terror despite the advise of the clerk...but at least the clerk knew her fish and wasnt going to subject the cichlid to abuse.
