Sounds like a labidochromis caeruleus, also know as an electric yellow cichlid or lemon yellow cichlid.
So you're right about the cichlid part. :)

Yep there Jonny Electric Yellow Mbuna Cichlids.
But my grilfriend got a male and a female one that are about 1" big smallest chilids i ever seen size of my glowlight tetras. And me sitting at home doing research about them knowin their chilids so i wouldnt put them in my community tank. She surprised me with them, so i put them in the tank thinking that they're agressive so il return them tomarrow
Turns out there not and they love swiming with my clownloaches and fallowing my gold gourami and even schooling with my tetras. So im keeping them untill they grow big enough ima get a diffrent tank for them and the loaches.

They max out at around 5".
They will get more aggressive when the get bigger, unless you luck out and have very tame personality fish. :)
I've seen really tiny ones (under 1"!) being sold at Wal*Mart.
I didn't even know they started that small!
My yellow labs just spawned, so I got a trio of super tiny fry swimming around now; you thought 1" was small, these fry was like 1/4" when I found them!
Most other LFS sell them when they get bigger, like at least 1.5" or so.
