i just started a pond and i currently have 6 goldfish (the $.28 ones) and 2 koi which are about the same size as the goldfish (2-3 in. long). the other day i noticed some type of egg clusters on 2 of my anacharis plants. the eggs were light green and covered in a film (this is before i put my goldfish in the pond). besides that i had looked on a few sites for compatibilty charts. i was wondering if i put some newts or salamanders that are about 4-6in. long would they eat my fish or the other way around. and i was also wondering about the fire bellied toad too if i were to keep those in there and keep the higher part of my pond elevated to the point whre the fish can't get there could i keep the toads and newts there? thanx to who ever replies

Most newts are not fully aquatic, so wouldn't stay in the pond for long, mostly just to reproduce (the females only), and the larval stage. Most salamander larvae are tenacious hunters--while adult comets and koi would be safe, fry would be devoured. Adult koi and comets would likely be able to swallow an adult newt--but that would be abd, since most newts have a toxin in their slime coating. Really not the best mix. Fire bellied toads (and most commercially available newts and salamanders) are tropical--unless you live in a tropical zone, they will not do well outside. Ditto the concern for the fish eating the frog--fire bellies are toxic as well. I wouldn't try the mix. Putting the species outside, uncontained, may be illegal as well--if the species can survive, it may spread, and cause problems. Bad juju.

You'll probably get some cool stuff in the pond without even trying. Depending where you live of course. You could get local frogs, a turtle and who knows? At the very least you'll get a ton of bugs.
my mom got 3 new frogs today and its steadily increasin because we always get 1 more every day
where hopefully expecting to see more
where we live not many frogs come
they just happened to stumble over :shark:

If you live in the midwestern United States you are in the middle of a very severe drought. Frogs are probably scrambling for new places to lay eggs.
Are you enjoying watching the tadpoles develop?

The eggs are probably snail eggs. You can't introduce amphibians outside where they don't belong. People setting african clawed frogs free is wreaking havoc in California. Your pond will attract native creatures which is one of the reasons for buildign a pond in the first place.
