I just happened upon a breeding pair of jewel cichlids at a pet store yesterday and was thrilled. Only $10 for a young breeding pair of beautifully colored jewels and even 5 of they're babies for free! So now i have them together in a 10 gallon ( i know it should be bigger, and im working on that) and i would like to know what conditions they need for breeding. what sort of decor ect. So if anyone has some tips for me, let me know!!! Thanx!
I have a breeding pair, myself. Definitely get a bigger tank for them. 30g would be plenty for just a breeding pair...though I would prefer a 40g breeder or a 50g for these guys. To breed, all they really need is clean, warm water(78-82F), a very healthy diet, and some sort of flat rock to do their business on. They seem to get a little 'friskier' after water changes, too.
