I swear fish hobbying is a sickness with no medicene to cure it. i just wanted a fish tank with pretty fish in it. Then i got guppies and realized they were easy to breed. So i had to get a breeder thing to hold the babies. Well then at a garage sell i found a ten gal to house the fry. Cant stop there, updated my bf's tank to a 55 gal from a 40gal, his fish are larger species. Took the 40 gal and set it up. Making the 40gal a fun tank for playing and mating, making the ten gal a birthing tank, less stressful than a breeder net, and the other 10gal a fry tank. Now, after seeing crowntail bettas, which reminds me i had a betta in a 1gal tank then when the sickness hit me i had to get him a 2.5gal, and the other types of bettas i want another tank to make it into a five parter or whatever will work. I have spent more time researching on how to take care of my fish than any paper i have ever worked on. It is so sad. Not to mention i take care of the tanks religously, which was not done before with the betta or my bf's tank (get this before we moved them the tank tested at 200ppm nitrates!!!!!! strong freaking fish

Who else contracted the sickness?

ummm, who in here hasn't? Make it worse--- much worse. Discover native fish. Free fish. All you want. Pretty fish. Easy to breed. Sometimes good to eat (no after being in the tank). But FREE. All you can overload your tank with.

I've learned in my illness that you shouldn't buy stuff you don't need. But you don't realize you don't need it until after you've bought it, used it for 6 mos and packed it away.

Yeah, I'm not working a whole lot right now, and I have way too much time on my hands so hanging out on here learning all things fish is all I've done lately :thud:. I went from a 35 gallon tank that my husband had when we first met, to just recently "upgrading" to a 180 gallon tank. I'm sure if he could have seen into his future and realized what that first tank would do he would have never bought it :D

Yes my mom had tanks when I was growing up and when we moved we had to get rid of them. I then convinced my parents to let me get a 38gal. Then I had to get a 55gal. I sold the 55 gal and got a 125 gal. Now Im in the process of adding anywhere from 180-300gallons (if I can get an acrilic that fits my needs). And then taking the 125 gallon and starting SW (My head hurts from SW research btw). Ive kept everything from community tanks, angels only, SA cichlids, african malawis, arowanas, to stingrays. I cant stop...and btw I must comment and say that my favorite biotope has to be the Amazon river which by far has the prettiest most interesting fish.

Oh I cant forget the 10gal hospital tank that I had that quickly became a cory palace :D

The worst part of the disease? Probably has to be the fact that whenever I see a pet store or LFS I CANT stop myself from going in...and I often find myself going to my favorite LFS even if I dont need anything "just to look around" and get ideas for new tanks. HOWEVER Id have to say that the worst place is Aquariacentral.com because I get soo many ideas in my head from here that I research for hours and then find myself spending MORE money.

I cant stop......someone PLEASE HELP ME.

Hehe, ok, mine started 4 years ago. My friend had a 55 gallon tank with just an oscar. Up until this point, I thought all fish were stupid, worthless, boring animals. Then I met this fish and this sucker had an attitude. He's always angry, smart enough to dissassemble his filters overnight. Splashed you when you got too close to the tank. So I just said "What the meanest fish I can get?" and he said "Convicts". So I spent every penny I owned on a 55 gallon tank and stand. Then I had no money for fish. Few weeks later, payday came about. I bought some convict and a firemouth. They were great pals, and I wanted a mean fish, not happy guys, so I sold them to the LFS, and after going through many many many many fish to find one I liked, I realized that the coolest ones (In my opinion) was the Midas. So I bought a midas. Now I have 2 55 gallons, and I'm getting a 135 gallon in about a week. GRRR!! Such a costly habit;).

HAHA you guys are great, this place does not help the sickness at all btw.

Anyway, i am truly sick, last night i found out that one of my fish had dropsy. It was at 10pm i stayed up until midnight wokring on research and moving fish around to quarintine her and water changes, etc. It was so sad, my bf said that if i asm going to act like fish are people then i am allowed no more tanks. I said yeah right **** me off and ill take your 55gal for myself. he knows i want it too.

I'm 35 years old and I started with a 5 1/2 gallon when I was 10 years old.

Right now I have a 100 gallon, a 75 gallon and a 38 gallon.. oh and a 5 gallon and two 1 gallon betta bowls. Disease you say :)
