I bought a new piece of driftwater from ebay...I was told it would not stain the water, it DID. To make sure I tested the water and I am at 7.0PH, 0 Nitrite, 0 Nitrate, 0 Ammonia and >0.5 Phospates. My water is crystal clear just a brownish-green color.

Will the driftwood stop bleeding into the water and is their anything else besides water changes that will remove the brown-green tint?

As far as I know, any real driftwood will leech. Some are known to leech more than others. You could remove the piece, boil it for several hours (if it's big, one half at a time in the biggest stock pot you have) to get out as much as you can. My water is a pleasant lemony yellow. Sparkling clear, but I think the rgeen of the plants and the temp of the light add to that yelow tint as well. A more blue light will balanec it out, I bet... Anyway, try boiling it.

Well theres nothing wrong with it. This fish will enjoy it more than anything. It can take up to 6 months for driftwood to stop bleeding colour. You can add some carbon to the filter, and change it weekly if you really want to try and get rid of it. Boiling the wood may also help to stop the colour.

Charcoal in the filter will help if you cant stand the color. But it will disipate on its own eventually. Some fish like cardinals need the yellow (black water) color to breed. Fish like it.

I really like the drift-wood-stained water colour in my tank.

yeah, i like in in mine too. with the dark gravel and plants, the darker water really makes it look like more of a natural pond setting. plus it cuts the light and keeps the plecos happier.

I pack the extra space in my cannister filter with polyester fiberfill. It helps filter the color out.
