79 max in this heat. Is that too high of a temp for goldies? I put the airconditioning on when it gets too humid in here, but day to day, the tank seems to hover at that temp.

Yes it is. That’s the problem with goldfish. They need something more like 65F. The max I would say is safe is 70F, but that is pushing it.

Outdoors in ponds they do perfectly well at temps higher than that, provided that the oxygenation is good/adequate. They do have a cooler period spring and fall, and much cooler to cold in the winter.

Indoors it is really a question of tank stocking - an over-crowded tank is asking for problems.

78 isn't too high. Mine live all year in an outdoor pond which gets pretty hot sometimes. It get 80 degrees or more. And coldness, they live under the ice for three months of the year. Very hardy fish. worry less about the cold factor. When it gets hot just make sure the oxygen is good, use a hang on back filter or something.

Theres one problem, they are in a 10g

So I say add a air pump to keep the O2 levels up.

But in general, as the question asks, is that ok if goldfish were kept around 75 to 80 in the summer (provided it is in a properly stocked, filtered tank) and then allowing the temperature to adjust with the seasons (down to maybe 65-70 in the winter)?

That is what happens in ponds, and should not be an issue if their space, filtration, and oxygenation needs are met.

Im sorry if this sounds like a dumb question - but how do you tell if your tank is well oxygenated? My tank has lots of teeensy tiny bubbles moving throughout the water? Does that make it well oxygenated?

yes its fine, and when u do regular water changes that adds more O2 to the tank

Movement at the water sufrace increases the mixing and exchange of gases with the air above the water, so filter returns, underwater pumps, etc. which move the surface all affect exchange.
